Our getting started guide has tips on how to check and adjust pH, how to clean equipment, how to read cosmetic formulas, how to calculate ingredient inputs for different batch sizes, and a variety of other getting started topics. Create cosmetic formulas tip #2: Check the cosmetic ingredients each program contains

Did you know we have a list with all of the ingredients the Create Cosmetic Formulas program contains? That’s right, to see the many hundreds of ingredients each Create Cosmetic Formulas program contains, just go to the program webpages relevant to each program:

Then click on each ingredient list, which is a button that looks like this:

We can also add additional ingredients for you where suitable – just email us: info@createcosmeticformulas.com with a link to the small supplier where you can purchase the material, and we’ll ask our cosmetic chemists to add it! Please note, we ONLY include ingredients in the Create Cosmetic Formulas program where they are available from small suppliers, to help maximise the ingredients you can access readily and use!

Create cosmetic formulas tip #3: Explore different cosmetic product forms

When you start working with the Create Cosmetic Formulas program, you will see we have cosmetic formula builds: ways to put different product forms together, titled by their most commonly recognized form. For example, we have the product form ‘oil in water lotion’, but this same formula build can be used to create a body milk – just use the lower side of the guided inputs of emulsifiers, and you’ll have a beautifully stable milk!
We also have a variety of cosmetic formulation builds with varying consistencies to help guide you, for example: o/w body butter, o/w cream, o/w crème-gel, serum (lotion like), serum (gel like), w/o cream and w/o ointment.
We have this sort of variety and choices for most formulation types – remember to check the different product forms from our ingredient and product form information sheet. To access, just go to the program webpages relevant to each program:

Then click on each ingredient list, which is a button that looks like this:

Create cosmetic formulas tip #4: Think outside the square – or contact us for help!

Once you have become familiar with the different cosmetic product forms, its time to really get creative! For example, our oleogel formula build can be used to create oil-to-milk cleansers; oil-to-milk blooming bath gels; beard gels; oil-to-milk exfoliants; non-greasy oleogel serums – basically anything where a sucragel type ingredient is used, our oleogel build will help you create it! (We also have a specific micellar oil-to-milk cleanser build too!) Other examples could include:

  • Want a hand wash? Use our body wash build with the low input of surfactants.
  • Want a creamy body scrub? Use our crème cleanser scrub build.
  • Want a brow gel? Use our hair gel with the low input of styling polymer.

With so many cosmetic formula builds, and your creativity, you can create just about any type of cosmetic formula you want! Still stuck? That’s what we’re here for. Contact us if you need help finding the right type of cosmetic formula build for your next creation: info@createcosmeticformulas.com

Create cosmetic formulas tip #5: Expand your cosmetic ingredient choices

This is one of the most important tips! When creating formulas, it is best if you have the suppliers pages you can purchase from open at the same time as creating your formulas, so you can see which of the ingredient choices your suppliers can provide. Don’t limit yourself to only one supplier – even our professional chemists here at the Institute need to source supplies from at least 3-4 different suppliers to create their desired formulas!

Here are some tips to help you find the suppliers you need:

  1. Have your supplier’s websites open when you are creating your cosmetic formulas
  2. When making ingredient selections, cross check with your suppliers on what they can supply – and add it to your cart (even if it means purchasing from a few different suppliers – this will actually help maximise your choices!)
  3. Remember to Visit our global suppliers page to help you find suppliers near you for step 1!
  4. Join our Cosmetic Raw Materials for Small Brands facebook group – here you can split packs with others to access materials from large suppliers
  5. You might also enjoy our blog How to source cosmetic ingredients and video How to source cosmetic ingredients.

So now its over to you… time to get creative!

Happy formulating!
