How to create serum formulas in 5 simple steps

How to create serum formulas in 5 simple steps

1. Select Serum (Gel-like, water based) as the type of formula you would like to create today, then click Create.

 

2. Click on Actives and select up to 3 different active ingredients you’d like to add to your serum formula.

For example, we’ve chosen hyaluronic acid powder and Vitamin C. We’ve then followed the input guides and used the maximum input suggested because we want it to be a super strength serum!

3. Choose your humectant, gum and lipids (oils) and follow the inputs provided. Not sure what each ingredient does? That’s okay, read our go-to guide on cosmetic ingredients here.

In our example, we’ve gone for easy to source ingredients because the program make sure that every formula will work – even if I don’t know how to choose! I’m going to pretend I’m new to formulating and really not sure how much to use – so I’ve used around the mid-point of the suggested range for each ingredient:

You could also choose to add essential oils or a fragrance at this step; we’ve decided to keep our formula simple and fragrance-free.

4. Choose your antioxidant and preservative to make sure your formula will have a good shelf life.

In our example, we’ve decided to choose ingredients that are easy to source and used the maximum recommended input to make sure our product is going to perform well over its shelf life.

5. Click Generate Method

Now all you need to do is find your nearest cosmetic ingredient suppliers, order the materials, and get making your fantastic serum formulas!
