How to create an eyebrow gel in 5 simple steps

1. Select Makeup, Eyebrow Gel, as the type of formula you would like to create today, then click Create

Eyebrow Gel: Our Create Cosmetic Formulas program uses water as the base ingredient in eyebrow gel formulas so you don’t need to select anything here, the program will automatically adjust the water content as you select other materials. The styling polymer PVP is also automatically added at 1.0%ww to your formula. The first selection you need to make is the humectant. I have chosen propanediol because it is natural derived and not tacky on the skin. I have added at the midpoint of 1.5%ww.

2. Choose your thickener and solubiliser.

For the thickener I have chosen a carbomer 980 because it creates a lovely clear gel and my goal is to create a clear brow gel with no added colour. For the solubiliser I have chosen PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil for the hair conditioning benefits of castor oil. I have entered them into my formula at the midpoint. The recommended input of all materials in already set for you. I like to start with the midpoint because this allows me to make only minor adjustments if I want to tweak the final product.

3. Choose lipid and preservative

For the humectant I have chosen propanediol as it is naturally derived and is not tacky at high inputs. I have also used it at the maximum input of 7.0%w/w to create a beautifully hydrating skin feel.

You can opt to have lipids in your brow gel or keep it oil free. I have chosen a small amount of blackcurrant oil for its skin and hair moisturising properties. I have not selected a fragrance or essential oil because I would like to keep my brows fragrance free. Although you might like to select an essential oil that has hair conditioning or hair growth benefits like rosemary essential oil. I have selected a broad-spectrum preservative at the maximum recommended input to protect my product from microbial growth since this is a water rich formula and there will be double dipping in this product.

4. Select Colourants

I haven’t selected colourants here because I want to create a clear brow gel, but you can play around with the available primary colour option to create your perfect shade.

Not sure which colourants to select? That’s okay, read our go-to guide on cosmetic ingredients here. and refer to page 10 for more information.

5. Click Generate Method

Then here is my formula, and here is the method!
