How to create a lip gloss in 5 simple steps

1. Select makeup, lip-gloss, as the type of formula you would like to create today, then click Create.

Lip-gloss: Our Create Cosmetic Formulas program uses castor oil as the base ingredient in lip-gloss formulas which is natural and gives the lip-gloss a stable and substantive base.

 

2. Choose your lipids.  

I have chosen a combination of natural oils including almond oil for its ability to soften and recondition the skin; avocado oil which is rich in vitamin A, E and carotene; caprylic/capric triglycerides for its long-spreading properties and jojoba oil which to mimics the skin's natural composition.

Not sure which lipid to choose? That’s ok hit “select 0-6” for a description of lipid options.

3. Choose your consistency factor.

For consistency I have chosen beeswax at only 1.0%w/w to thicken the lip-gloss preventing it from being too runny; and hydrogenated vegetable oil to further increase the lip-gloss’s viscosity.

4. Choose your mica and colourants.

Now for the fun bit! For the colour I have chosen russet and yellow iron oxides to give me an earthy orange tone. I have added 1.0% mica to give a gentle glow to the lips without adding sparkle. You also have the option to add some pigment and effect if you want to add some glitter and sparkle to your formula!

5. Choose antioxidant, flavour and fragrance.

I have chosen mixed tocopherols it gives the best antioxidant protection to both the lips and the formula. I have also added essential oil at 0.1%w/w input to stick with the natural theme of my lip-gloss formula.
