Hair Conditioning Mist: In the Create Cosmetic Formulas program, water or water alternatives form the base of hair conditioning mist formulas. While it's possible to use water alone, I’ve chosen to include coconut water at 10% w/w as a natural alternative. Coconut water is rich in electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, offering lightweight hydration without adding heaviness to the hair. As more ingredients are added, the program will automatically adjust the remaining water content to ensure the formula remains balanced.
2. Choose your emulsifier and conditioning additives.

I’ve included Cetrimonium Chloride, a cationic conditioning agent and emulsifier, known for providing excellent slip and detangling support, helping to reduce breakage and pulling during combing. It is used here at 0.75% w/w, which is a balanced midpoint for effectiveness and safety.
Since my hair is naturally wavy to curly, I’ve selected Polyquaternium-10, a film-forming polymer that enhances curl retention, reduces static, and improves smoothness and manageability, especially in dry or cold weather. I’ve used it at the maximum recommended input of 0.30% w/w to ensure optimal performance.
To support lasting hydration, I’ve also included Propanediol at 5.0% w/w, the upper usage limit. It is a naturally derived, non-sticky humectant that helps to retain moisture in the hair shaft, contributing to softness without weighing the hair down.
3. Choose your actives and extracts.

For the active ingredients, I’ve chosen hydrolyzed hemp protein, a naturally derived protein that helps repair and strengthen the hair, while also offering protection against future damage. I’ve also included blue lotus extract for its revitalizing and conditioning properties, helping to improve the hair’s overall softness and manageability.
Not sure which actives or extracts are best suited to your hair needs? No problem, just tap “Select 0–3” to explore a description of each option and find the perfect fit for your routine.
4. Choose your oil soluble material.

I have selected PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil to effectively solubilise lipid-based ingredients, improving the clarity and stability of the mist while also reducing surface tension for more even spray distribution.
To enhance the sensory feel, I’ve included cyclomethicone, a volatile silicone that evaporates quickly after application, leaving behind conditioning agents without residue. This gives the hair a dry, smooth, and non-sticky finish.
Hemp seed oil is included at a low input for its lightweight omega-rich profile, helping to nourish, soften, and smooth the hair cuticle without heaviness. Vanilla oil contributes a warm, sweet natural scent, enhancing the sensory experience.
To protect the formula and the oils from oxidation, I’ve also added mixed tocopherols for broad-spectrum antioxidant support, ensuring stability and extended shelf life.
